Cards, Colour & Containment

I have been a busy bee working on my 1) photo cards and 2) my hand drawn/hand painted cards. I have also been brainstorming ideas of how to display said cards at the festival this Saturday.

My photo cards are looking fabulous. I sometimes stop for a moment and stare at them amazed at what I can accomplish when I set my mind to it. This is the first time I've used Podgy to stick photos to the card material. In the past I used thicker rubber cement adhesive. It was a testing process with a few photos getting a little bit of the Podgy dotted on the front. I am more comfortable with it now and things are moving along at a successful rate!

My hand drawn/hand painted cards are also coming along quite well. These are all very one-of-a-kind items. Although I would probably be able to draw a similar image, the colours I mixed will never be the same on a second card. I like that each card is original, it makes them feel special!

How to display these cards at the festival on Saturday has been on my mind since I decide I would be showcasing greeting cards. I had the idea of a clothesline type set up with tiny clothes pegs holding the cards to the string. However, due to limited room on the table for my items I felt a new kind of display was called for. Above is my first attempt at a display using bamboo sticks (kabob sticks) and tiny wooden clothes pegs stuck to one end using the E-6000 adhesive. These would be propped up in a flower pot or a vase of soil. They look fantastic, but are not stable enough for even a slight breeze. I would need to use at least two pegs for each card.

The brainstorming continues...

The Road To Big On Bloor...

Contrary to all prior experience and speculation, it seems that beautiful weather and a stack of DVDs are, in fact, conducive to getting work done...

Today was jewellery day, starting out with a stack of Shrinky Dinks and some lovely Faber-Castell markers.

After Kill Bill Vol. 2, Radio Days, and Hellboy 2, I had a whole stack of images waiting to be shrunk.  Here are a handful of them...

Now onto baking and adding fasteners!

Deena, The Dynamic Goddess

On behalf of Deena, one of our Goddesses who has limited computer access, I am posting the fantastic progress she and I made yesterday in preparing her for BIG on Bloor happening this Saturday!

Deena is a Makeup Artist who offers makeup application and instruction for private and commercial bookings.

Yesterday we were very productive and a force of strength and awesome creativity when it came to preparing contact cards and gift certificates for Deena to use at the festival.

Below are some photos I took to capture the moments of success during our afternoon, evening and even night of creative wonder. Enjoy!

The photo above is of the contact cards and the gift certificates we created. Don't they look fabulous?!

This photo above is of a gift certificate in its holder. Yes, she even has classy holders for her gift certificates!

Here is Deena, posing with all her completed materials for the festival. Doesn't she look fantastic?!

Progress Is My Middle Name!

...well, not really... LOL!

Greetings!

I thought I would post some photos of my creation process and progress on items I am preparing for the BIG On Bloor 2009 festival.

The two main items I am creating for the festival are 1) magnets and 2) greeting cards.

Below are photos of my 1) wooden star magnets and 2) glass marble magnets.

Above are the wooden stars in their first stage - painted black and awaiting the creative flare of sparkles and sealer!

Above are the finished product: wooden stars, painted black, decorated with different kinds/colours of sparkles which are then glazed with Podgy so they don't rub off. Magnets are attached to the back using E-6000 adhesive...it's fabulous and strong!

This photo above shows the mid-way process of creating the marble magnets. I have used adhesive (Podgy) to glue my printed images to the flat side of the marble. After this, I would slice away the excess paper, apply more Podgy to seal the paper, then stick the magnet to the back using E-6000 adhesive. I will post more photos of the finished product in a future blog post.

Below is a photo of the wooden light switch cover and the tiny wooden stars I created to decorate it. I have included this one of a kind item in my array of creations for the festival.

Check back later for photo progress of my greeting cards - 1) hand drawn and painted cards and 2) photos cards, using photos I took myself. Fantastic!

Enjoy and thanks for your interest,
